About The Position

Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Perception Engineer to join our Marine team in Kennesaw, GA. This role will drive the development of cutting-edge marine solutions, focusing on both software and electrical engineering aspects, with an emphasis on perception in the marine environment. As a Senior Perception Software Engineer, you'll leverage your extensive experience in both software and electrical engineering to lead innovative marine solutions. You'll work on production development projects, ensuring proper software configuration, hardware/software integration, and adherence to industry standards and safety protocols. Strong communication skills for international collaboration, especially between the US and Japan, are essential. The anticipated initial project is perception systems for leisure marine applications, leveraging camera/sonar/sensor etc. The assigned projects may evolve and differ to accommodate the product strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in industrial engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in perception technology, design and implementation of embedded software systems, and/or electrical engineering, with a preference for marine or mobility industry experience.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to formulate business cases.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities, especially for international collaboration, e.g. Japan, Europe.
  • Strong attention to detail and independence.
  • Strong leadership and team and technology management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with functional safety or cybersecurity standards.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and safety compliance in marine industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive the development of new features, content, and products within the Production Software & Systems team, focusing on software and electrical engineering for Electronic Control Units (ECUs), Multi-Function Displays (MFDs), and other marine applications, while ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments, design and implement focusing on safety measures of the software defined products in the marine applications.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate international collaboration efforts, working closely with global teams to ensure alignment and successful project execution.
  • Support business operations by contributing to strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Manage export/import control processes, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Guide external resources and teams in delivering features, content, and products.
  • Take ownership of the development of the assigned product(s) as project/technical lead throughout the entire development process from ideation to testing.
  • Mentor junior engineers with the technology expertise and business acumen, emphasizing safety practices across the different levels of products in use.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with global operational rules and regulations.
