A Day in the Life Medtronic Surgical is looking for a Sr. PD PMO Director – Post-Market Development. As a key member of the Transformation and Program Management Office (TPMO) leadership team, you will lead all Program Management Office activities for the Post-Market Development group in the Surgical PMO Center of Excellence (COE). The successful candidate will guide a team of project and program managers tasked with leading design change, cost down, compliance, supply continuity, and other applicable post-market projects for the $6B+ portfolio of Surgical products. We’re working a minimum of 4 days a week onsite as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary.  This position can reside in Lafayette, CO; North Haven, CT; Boston, MA; or Minneapolis, MN This high-visibility PMO leader will facilitate collaboration across the Surgical OU development functions, COE’s, and cross-organizational partners to effectively leverage our broad and diverse engineering talent. The Post-Market Development PMO team and leader are tasked with the following:

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience (PMO, R&D, Engineering) with 10+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum 13 years of relevant experience (PMO, R&D, Engineering) and 10+ years of managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others, managing diverse relationships and inspiring others.
  • Exceptional project management skills; knowledge of process and project planning best practices.
  • Strong track record of leading complex projects requiring strong influence management skills and willingness and ability to institute change.
  • Business acumen; ability to think from an overall “best for the business” perspective
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills - able to adapt communication style to varied audiences and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated success in complex negotiations.

  • Advanced Degree in engineering or scientific discipline or an MBA
  • DRM, Lean Leader, or Six Sigma certification
  • Program Management Qualification: PMP Certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Program Management team, lifting the performance of our Project and Program Managers such that they become recognized leaders within Medtronic and respected in program leadership.
  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for post-market activities, aligning with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive multi-year talent development and succession planning within the Program Management function.
  • Partner with Business Unit Portfolio Leaders, Global Operations and Supply Chain (GOSC) teams, and Functional/COE leaders to ensure project teams are effectively staffed and managing risk as required to deliver on business commitments.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of cross-functional post-market projects and programs.
  • Manage PMO and project budgets/resources across the COE’s and key post-market programs using resource management software and associated methodologies
  • Oversee lifecycle management of released products, including product enhancements, issue resolution, and end-of-life strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for product quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure all released products meet global regulatory and compliance standards throughout their lifecycle.
  • Partner with Regulatory Affairs and Quality teams to proactively address compliance risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Support and lead post-market activities to enable commercial growth in new and existing markets.
  • Develop and manage post-launch plans for product expansion, including market entry strategies, labeling, and localized compliance.
  • Maximize the effectiveness of project intake for Released Products Management (RPM), and ensure all projects are managed within the business’ project delivery framework.
  • Lead key released product governance forums for the OU, such as the RPM boards for each Business Unit
  • Quantify broad organizational risk for the Surgical portfolio across various projects and functions.
  • Dynamically propose and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure projects stay on schedule and product supply remains stable.
  • Roll up portfolio metrics for the Surgical business to enable strategic business decisions based on current released product risk.
  • Partner with other key leaders in PMO to deploy Medtronic initiatives (DRM, Quality Initiatives, Process Excellence, etc.) across the product development lifecycle
  • Ensure alignment of released project teams and execution strategies across the Surgical Business Unit with the broader Surgical portfolio strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with other R&D COE teams (RPE, Development, Systems, etc.) and cross-functional teams to ensure programs are appropriately staffed and running efficiently.
  • Support Transformation initiatives across the Surgical OU to improve execution and efficiency throughout the product lifecycle
