UnitedLex is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Sr. Payroll Specialist. This Specialist would be responsible for accurately processing, reviewing, and maintaining payroll for U.S. employees in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. This role ensures timely payment, accurate deductions, and proper reporting, while also providing support for payroll-related inquiries. Sr. Payroll Specialist partners closely with HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure seamless payroll operations. This is a remote position, and we welcome applicants from throughout the United States.

  • Process bi-weekly/weekly payroll for U.S. employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Maintain payroll records including employee data, tax information, benefits deductions, garnishments, and direct deposits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and general ledger accounts; identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, taxes, time reporting, and payroll-related issues.
  • Partner with HR and Benefits teams to ensure accurate employee information (new hires, terminations, promotions, leaves, benefit deductions, etc.).
  • Manage and process wage garnishments, levies, and other mandated deductions.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll-related reports to Finance and HR leadership.
  • Assist with year-end payroll processes, including W-2, W-4, and tax filings.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll data and documentation.
  • Stay updated on changes in U.S. payroll legislation, tax rules, and compliance requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of U.S. payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state environment.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity, Workday, Paycom, Ceridian, or similar).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
