About The Position

The Senior Paralegal reports to one of the attorneys in the Fairview Legal Department, but will work with all of the attorneys in the Legal Department on various legal matters. The Senior Paralegal will be responsible for gathering data, identifying witnesses, reviewing evidence, reviewing draft responses and other functions related to internal investigations and evaluation of employment, professional malpractice and general liability claims. This position is also responsible for working with in-house and outside legal counsel to represent Fairview's interests as necessary in certain liability claims, drafting employment agreements, and projects. This position is responsible for identifying risk issues through claim investigations and reporting learnings back to the supervising attorney.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or significant and relevant experience working as a senior paralegal
  • Five or more years of experience as a litigation paralegal
  • Paralegal or equivalent position working for a business or law firm in a corporate or health care related field

Nice To Haves

  • Four year degree in a legal, business or health care related field
  • Paralegal certificate completed at ABA-approved paralegal studies educational program
  • Knowledge and experience of health care rules, regulations and topics
  • Certified Paralegal or Registered Paralegal

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate internal investigation of employment and other professional liability claims
  • Gather documents, interview witnesses, and other investigation responsibilities to assist attorney(s) in responding to charges, claims, and correspondence
  • Manage subpoena and discovery intake and response
  • Develop and maintain a system for intake, progress tracking, data collection, data labeling, data screening (for PHI, etc.) data production and metric reporting
  • Prepare, track and report metrics on employment agreements, templates and other legal documents
  • Identify and analyze legal issues and conduct legal research
  • Prepare legal memos, correspondence, etc. on various topics
  • Assist with preparation for depositions and assist at depositions
  • Identify and implement opportunities for standardization and implement efficiencies in department operations
  • Prepare legal position statements for attorney review pertaining to policies, operational practices and other transactions
  • Participate in the development of policies and procedures
  • Interpret and apply legal rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal and external customers when attorneys are unavailable or to determine which attorney to send the matter to
  • Assist with the upkeep of the Legal Dept website and create content for the website
  • Work cooperatively with the Executive Administrator on projects and file organization
  • Assist with other projects as requested by the attorneys
