About The Position

Up to $8,000 Sign on Bonus, based on relevant experience Children’s Hospital of Michigan is an international leader in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Surgical services include general, thoracic, reconstructive and cardiovascular. Imaging technology designed specifically for children provides advanced diagnostic services including Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and MRI. The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Emergency Department is a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and dedicated pediatric burn center. Experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine provide care for thousands of children every year at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan - Troy and six ambulatory sites. Job Summary Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, oversees, assigns work to, and trains Orthopedic Technicians in the proper application of orthopedic procedures. Develops and conducts in-service training for nursing staff on orthopedic equipment and charge capture process. Develops and maintains files on teaching activities. Analyzes and evaluates new equipment or products. Collaborates with department leadership to attain procurement. Monitors, orders and maintains an adequate stock of orthopedic inventory and supplies within established budgetary guidelines. Maintians and monitors daily orthopedic charges. Completes monthly billing of rented hospital equipment. Participates in the development, documentation, and implementation of policies and procedures related to orthopedic unit or orthopedic equipment. Serves as a member on various nursing and hospital committees. Participates in monthly staff meetings. Interacts with a variety of ancillary and support departments to resolve problems and provide information. Reports difficult and/or complex problems to leadership. Performs all the duties of an orthopedic technician, including conducting patient education on various orthopedic devices.

Requirements

  • Two years of college education with emphasis on health care or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Three years of progressively more responsible experience in surgical casting and splinting techniques with extensive knowledge of orthopedic equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) licensure preferred
  • Casting certification preferred
