About The Position

Primary Duties & Responsibilities Lead opto-mechanical design and system level optimization of precision optical assemblies such as refractive and reflective laser beam scanners, and high-power photonic hardware Develop and execute advanced FEA and CFD simulations for structural, thermal, and fluid flow performance using tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, and related solvers. Architect thermal management solutions for high power optics and processors including heat spreaders, microchannel coolers, cold plates, liquid cooling loops, and advanced TIM interfaces Perform coupled multiphysics simulations including thermal mechanical distortion, thermal lensing, vibration sensitivity, and stress induced optical aberrations Design and optimize micro scale and macro scale cooling solutions including forced convection, two phase cooling concepts, and hybrid air liquid systems Translate optical performance requirements into robust mechanical and thermal designs that preserve wavefront quality, alignment stability, and long term reliability Lead tolerance analysis, sensitivity studies, and worst case design assessments for optomechanical assemblies Drive material selection for optical and thermal components including metals, ceramics, composites, diamond, silicon, and advanced thermal interface materials Develop predictive thermal and fluid dynamic models for GPUs, CPUs, and high heat flux electronic packages Support prototype build, validation testing, and thermal mechanical characterization including correlation of experimental data with simulation results Own design for reliability including fatigue, creep, thermal cycling, shock, and vibration qualification Collaborate closely with optical engineers, electrical engineers, packaging engineers, and manufacturing teams to deliver fully integrated system solutions Lead technical trade studies balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, and risk for complex opto-mechanical platforms Generate detailed technical documentation including design reports, simulation methodologies, verification plans, and qualification summaries Mentor junior engineers in advanced simulation techniques, optomechanical best practices, and system level design thinking Contribute to intellectual property development, publications, and advanced R & D initiatives in opto-mechanics and thermal engineering Knowledge of optical testing and interferometry Education & Experience Master's/PHD degree in Optics, Optoelectronics, Photonics, Mechanical Engineering or a related field A minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment Skills Advanced FEA for structural, thermal, and multiphysics analysis Engineering scripting and automation using Python for simulation workflows, parametric studies, optimization and data analysis. Advanced use of Solidworks or Creo for precision optomechanical design and GD&T. Expert level Zemax for optical system modeling, tolerancing and stray ray analysis. Advanced COMSOL for coupled thermal fluid structure simulations. CFD for internal and external flow, microchannel cooling, and thermal optimization Optomechanical system design for precision alignment and stability Thermal management of high power lasers, optical amplifiers, and processor based systems Heat transfer including conduction, convection, radiation, and phase change Fluid mechanics for forced convection, manifold design, and pressure drop optimization Thermodynamic modeling of complex cooling architectures Optical performance preservation under thermal and mechanical loading High reliability design for aerospace, defense, and industrial photonics platforms

Requirements

  • Master's/PHD degree in Optics, Optoelectronics, Photonics, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Advanced FEA for structural, thermal, and multiphysics analysis
  • Engineering scripting and automation using Python for simulation workflows, parametric studies, optimization and data analysis.
  • Advanced use of Solidworks or Creo for precision optomechanical design and GD&T.
  • Expert level Zemax for optical system modeling, tolerancing and stray ray analysis.
  • Advanced COMSOL for coupled thermal fluid structure simulations.
  • CFD for internal and external flow, microchannel cooling, and thermal optimization
  • Optomechanical system design for precision alignment and stability

Responsibilities

  • Mentor junior engineers in advanced simulation techniques, optomechanical best practices, and system level design thinking
  • Contribute to intellectual property development, publications, and advanced R & D initiatives in opto-mechanics and thermal engineering
