About The Position

Last Mile Delivery & Technology is responsible for envisioning and developing forward-looking initiatives to improve the efficiency, speed, quality, and safety of the delivery experience for customers worldwide. Our team is actively seeking highly-motivated innovators who are eager to transform the future of logistics and delivery solutions. As a Senior Optical Engineer, you will lead the optical module design, development, and validation of advanced machine vision and compute devices for automotive and industrial applications. You'll work closely with product and operations teams to understand process and business challenges, architect novel solutions, and drive hardware development from concept to production. The ideal candidate demonstrates a hands-on passion for engineering, communicates concepts clearly both verbally and visually, and thrives in a dynamic, highly ambiguous environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in engineering, physics, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in optical module development
  • Experience developing functional specifications, design validation plans, and functional test procedures
  • Knowledge of production optical module manufacturing processes (module construction, active alignment, image system metrology)
  • Experience writing technical documents, project plans, and progress reports

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or above in engineering, physics, or equivalent
  • Experience leading engineering design projects and interacting with cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency with simulation tools for optical analysis (Zemax or similar)
  • Experience with prototyping techniques to enable testing platforms and validate design concepts
  • Experience with computer vision techniques (geometric calibration, camera and projector homography)
  • Familiarity with machine vision depth sensing modalities (time-of-flight, structured illumination, stereovision)

Responsibilities

  • Lead optical module design projects from concept through production
  • Partner across engineering, manufacturing, and business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and prioritize project requirements while balancing diverse objectives
  • Design and optimize optical architectures, components, and modules — including design considerations for system integration, material selection, manufacturability, assembly processes, test methods, reliability, and cost
  • Perform simulations using first principles of geometrical optics and radiometry to analyze performance of machine vision systems
  • Develop optical test plans — including qualification plans and acceptance criteria for volume production
  • Conduct root cause analyses and implement mitigation strategies throughout the product lifecycle — including design modifications, calibration procedures, and compensation methods
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and manufacturing partners

Benefits

  • health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage)
  • 401(k) matching
  • paid time off
  • parental leave
