The mission of GWU Hospital is to provide the highest quality of healthcare, advanced medical technology, and world class service to its patients in an academic medical center dedicated to education and research Sr. Occupational Therapist – Acute Rehab Unit Fulfills the needs of patients, families and community by providing Occupational Therapy services in accordance with his/her licensure, certification, training, and regulatory requirements. Responds effectively to new and changing work assignments. This position acts as an inpatient rehabilitation expert between internal referral sources and the inpatient rehabilitation program. The main goal of this role is to facilitate acute rehabilitation admissions and maximize therapy for floor and ICU patients recommended for ARU. They will provide backup liaison coverage during times of high referrals, low ARU census, and PTO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an A.O.T.A. accredited school of Occupational Therapy
  • 5 years experience in practice area or in a specialized area of Occupational Therapy
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from an A.O.T.A. accredited school of Occupational Therapy preferred

Responsibilities

  • See patients recommended for ARU that could benefit from an additional session of therapy
  • Perform follow-up treatments to help expedite updated notes for a patient who is being considered for ARU
  • Collaborate with staff on patients recommended for ARU or SAR but no benefit/ difficult dispo situation and need to progress to home -in collaboration with Rehab in place protocol
  • Collaborate with liaison on stakeholder engagement and education
  • In collaboration with liaison, completes face-to-face, in-service educational contacts with physicians, case managers, other interdisciplinary members and other professionals.
  • Serves as an educational resource to patients, family members and caregivers
  • Assistance with specialized equipment: ordering specialized wheelchairs, tilt table, pressure mapping, lite gait (body weight support), vector walking system, E-stim
