The Sr. Occupational Nurse Practitioner at BASF Chemical, Freeport, TX location is responsible for overseeing the occupational health programs at the Freeport site with focus on identifying and controlling the risks arising from physical, chemical, and other workplace hazards with the goal of establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. As a Sr. Occupational Nurse Practitioner, you create chemistry by... Conducting employee health assessments—including pre-employment and annual physical examinations, medical history reviews, and fitness-for-work evaluations—while maintaining detailed and confidential medical records in accordance with BASF standards and regulatory requirements. Developing and implementing workplace health and safety programs that help prevent occupational illnesses and injuries, collaborating closely with site leadership, EHS, and HR to strengthen health and safety policies and initiatives. Providing medical care and emergency response support, including first aid and clinical care for employees who become ill or injured at work, supporting the site’s emergency medical response team, and participating in emergency planning and response situations such as chemical spills or releases. Supporting employee health and wellbeing through education and counseling on topics such as ergonomics, stress management, and mental health, while coordinating wellness initiatives including health screenings, health fairs, immunization clinics, and other health promotion activities. Monitoring and managing the health status of employees returning to work after work-related injuries or illnesses, supporting Worker’s Compensation processes where applicable, and advocating for safe and healthy working conditions across the site. Interpreting occupational health data such as spirometry and audiometric testing results, applying findings in clinical decision-making, and developing working knowledge of site-specific hazards and chemicals including Ammonia, Formaldehyde, Benzene, Acrylonitrile, and other relevant substances. Collaborating with BASF Corporate Medical, management, EHS, Human Resources, the Leave Management Team, and external healthcare partners—including designated collaborating physicians—to ensure alignment with BASF medical protocols, regulatory compliance, and best practices in occupational health. Supporting the occupational health nursing team in daily operations by serving as a second-call escalation resource for serious injuries or illnesses, rotating after-hours on-call responsibilities, assisting in the development of site medical directives and protocols, conducting annual plant tours with reporting to Corporate Medical, and stepping into the Occupational Nursing role when needed.
