About The Position

The Sr. Nuclear Engineer position at Xcel Energy is a senior-level role focused on supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operations of nuclear generation power plants. The engineer will lead the development of plant modifications, perform engineering evaluations, and oversee other engineers in various technical activities. This role requires a high level of expertise in nuclear engineering and project management, with responsibilities that include troubleshooting, maintaining design documents, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 8 or more years of engineering experience in nuclear generating plants or equivalent experience in related fields.
  • Demonstrated expertise in problem-solving in nuclear generation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain qualifications for unescorted access to nuclear power plants.
  • May be required to assume emergency response duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in control systems, particularly in main turbine or reactor pressure control systems.
  • Strong experience in Electrical and Mechanical engineering or digital controls.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or SRO License or certification.
  • Advanced degree in engineering or related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or oversee the development of plant modifications or program documents.
  • Perform, lead, or oversee troubleshooting of nuclear power plant systems.
  • Conduct engineering evaluations and operability determinations.
  • Maintain design basis documents and resolve Corrective Action issues.
  • Support continued plant operation and assess adverse conditions.
  • Provide technical leadership for other engineers and designers.
  • Develop schedules and utilize work management tools for engineering activities.
  • Attend department and plant meetings, representing the company at industry events.
  • Complete training and other assigned projects.
