About the team and the role: TCGplayer connects hobbyists and hobby businesses to communities. We relentlessly improve the exchange of things and thoughts that fuel passions, providing the most compelling destination and tools for collectible card game enthusiasts and professional sellers! TCGplayer, now a part of eBay, promotes and drives growth of our products and services by connecting a global community of millions of buyers with tens of thousands of retailers in a $25B global collectible hobby market. Cloud Platform Engineering (CPE) is responsible for the stability, reliability, and deployment of TCGplayer technology. Our primary function is to increase the efficiency of the organization through well-designed automation and infrastructure. As a Senior DBA you will work closely with Architecture, CPE, and Software Engineering to increase stability and reliability of our database platforms. You will be responsible for 24/7 operations of our databases, creating and maintaining efficient procedures and queries. Ultimately you will execute and automate operational processes quickly, accurately and securely. Your responsibilities will include deploying product updates, identifying production issues and implementing integrations that meet TCGplayer needs.   • Administer and manage MongoDB Atlas clusters including deployment, configuration, patching, upgrades, scaling, and high availability.
  • Design and implement data models, sharding strategies, and indexing plans for performance optimization.
  • Monitor system health and performance using Atlas and third-party monitoring tools, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures; ensure compliance with RTO/RPO requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to development teams with query optimization, proper stored procedure usage, indexing optimization and schema optimization.
  • Understand cloud systems such as AWS and how to optimize, configure and deploy databases using cloud technologies.
  • Take lead in the database deployment process and assist DevOps team during code deployments.
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and attention to detail during daily operations.
  • Establish and enforce database standards and best practices for schema design, security, access controls, and automation.
  • Assist in capacity planning and cost optimization, particularly within cloud-based environments.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior DBAs and developers on MongoDB and general NoSQL best practices.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and handle incident response related to NoSQL systems.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a DBA with a focus on MongoDB, including at least 2 years with MongoDB Atlas in a production environment.
  • Strong understanding of NoSQL data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency with MongoDB tools (Compass, Atlas CLI, mongodump/mongorestore, mongoexport/mongoimport).
  • Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform, Ansible) for deployment and monitoring tasks.
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and experience managing cloud-based databases.
  • Familiarity with security practices, including encryption, authentication (LDAP, x.509), and role-based access controls.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Prior experience with NoSQL and caching technologies (Redis, Elasticsearch).
  • Experience with database monitoring / alerting / troubleshooting tools (New Relic).
  • MongoDB Certified DBA or Developer.
  • Experience with additional NoSQL technologies (e.g., Cassandra, Couchbase, Redis, DynamoDB).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools.
  • Base pay range: $100,000 - $173,000.
  • Target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable).
