Verizon Global Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Senior Lab Engineer to lead the physical implementation, testing, and validation of our enterprise-wide network architecture at our Hempstead, NY lab. This role will play a crucial part in driving network transformation by performing hands-on testing of unified, cloud-native frameworks and traditional hardware environments. Working physically in the lab, you will execute implementation and testing for a wide array of IT network technologies, including Wi-Fi, Retail 2.0 systems, Firewalls (FW), Proxies, Load Balancers (LB), and DNS. You will work with cutting-edge technology, leveraging tools like Spirent to execute test plans provided by network planners and redefining the future of network reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.
  • Four or more years of experience in enterprise network implementation, testing, and data center operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in large-scale enterprise environments with complex physical networking requirements.
  • Prior experience leading hardware testing and validation for digital transformation initiatives.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, CCIE, or vendor-specific certifications (e.g., F5, Palo Alto, Arista).
  • Hands-on expertise with Firewalls, Proxies, VPNs, Load Balancers, and DNS.
  • Strong proficiency in Wi-Fi technologies, Retail network systems, and Optics/transceivers.
  • Experience using Spirent or similar network testing and traffic generation tools.
  • Practical knowledge of cloud-native security models and their interaction with physical hardware.
  • Ability to implement and test zero trust architectures based on provided blueprints.
  • Understanding of industry security standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS benchmarks.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate test results and technical issues to stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Executing the physical implementation and testing of the enterprise-wide network architecture, ensuring alignment with design objectives.
  • Performing hands-on testing for Firewalls, Proxies, Load Balancers, and DNS solutions.
  • Conducting physical validation and performance testing for Wi-Fi, Retail 2.0 infrastructure, and Optics components.
  • Collaborating with networking and security teams to integrate and test identity and access management policies in a lab environment.
  • Following technical standards and test plans provided by network planners to ensure scalability and performance.
  • Building and validate physical setups based on Low Level Design (LLD) diagrams and communicate results to implementation teams.
  • Providing technical oversight for lab-based global network transformation initiatives and edge security testing.
  • Utilizing Spirent test tools to evaluate and validate network equipment and optical transceivers.
  • Partnering with engineering leadership to ensure lab activities align with digital transformation goals.
  • Maintaining strong vendor relationships during the testing phase to ensure hardware meets technical requirements.
  • Developing detailed test reports and migration validation strategies to ensure minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Leading proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and pilot projects to validate new network solutions and capabilities.
  • Keeping abreast of emerging hardware vulnerabilities and risks, ensuring lab solutions address new threats.
  • Maintaining complete technical knowledge of the physical lab network and equipment inventory.
