As a Senior Network Development Engineer working in AWS DX Networking, you will have end to end ownership (operations escalation, automation, engineering and implementation) of our current and newly developing IP networks. Senior Network Development Engineers in AWS Direct Connect own managing the Network for DX customers to create a highly available and reliable connectivity. They work closely with our product team to help define the customer experience of Direct Connect and other AWS network related products. They influence AWS network infrastructure organizations to ensure the network operates based on Direct Connect customer requirements. On a given day, our engineers will be diving deep to understand an issue in our network, proposing new ideas to make our network more reliable or easier to manage, or working with leadership to create the vision for our service.

Requirements

3+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
8+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
Experience working in large-scale networking environments
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related technical field
Experience with network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and Junos
Experience with internet routing protocols and concepts: TCP/IP, BGP, MPLS, ISIS and/or OSPF

Responsibilities

Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configurations issues; including necessary low level application interaction, Unix systems, and new age networking software tools
Define and influence strategy within and outside the team
Lead project teams to deliver impactful benefits to our customers
Work closely with our network engineers and software developers to automate network deployment and operations
Drive operational excellence projects to improve network performance and reliability
Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions
Hiring, mentoring and coaching engineers
Review and implement changes on the network
Must be willing to support an off-hours operations escalation pager rotation.
Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
The ability to sit in front of computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
