About The Position

Approves residential loans and exceptions to policy within scope of authority in accordance with company policy and secondary market guidelines. Evaluates risk and sets terms for approval based on investor and program specific guidelines. Provides evaluation and analysis of mortgage loan credit packages to determine compliance with investor and agency guidelines and compliance with outside agency rules and regulations. Reviews and approves appraisal reports, and assesses company risk due to property appraisal in accordance with guidelines. Maintains contact with outside agencies to obtain required information and/or documentation that may change periodically. Must have the ability to prioritize, be highly organized and have solid problem solving and decision making skills. Ensures Corporate Credit Policy and all Federal and State Lending Regulations are upheld. Requires direct endorsement with FHA (DE) and Senior Appraisal Reviewer designation from VA (SAR). Accurately evaluates and analyzes the credit risk factors in the determination of compliance with investor guidelines, outside agency rules and regulatory rules, and renders final loan decisions on mortgage loans. Sets forth in writing in an approved organizational format the terms for loan approval and modification or identifies reason for denial. Reviews appraisal reports and assesses company risk in accordance with investor program guidelines and regulatory guidelines. Reviews and determines that the appraisal process as established by Mortgage Central LLC was followed as required. Uses Encompass processing system to provide consistency of underwriting conditions. Completes all tracking screens as required for reporting or other purposes including but not limited to required HMDA data. Conducts final review of underwriting conditions to ascertain that the file will now meet program and investor guidelines. Maintains contact with outside agencies such as FHA, VA, FNMA, and FHLMC to obtain required information and/or documentation that may change periodically. Assists loan originators and processors as able with requests for assistance in structuring loans to meet investor requirements. Assists operations staff as able with questions regarding AUS systems, underwriting guidelines and any other underwriting related issues. Able to effectively communicate and discuss underwriting decision. Willingness to listen and evaluate challenges to underwriting conditions or decisions. Maintains job knowledge by reading and understanding pertinent and assigned investor announcements, bulletins, periodic updates and attendance at applicable training seminars. Works to identify, develop and train talented processors for possible promotion into underwriting. Perform all other duties as required. Identifies problems and develops procedures to resolve or correct the situation; monitors and measures the results.College degree preferred.

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to prioritize, be highly organized and have solid problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Requires direct endorsement with FHA (DE) and Senior Appraisal Reviewer designation from VA (SAR).
  • Minimum 3-5 years underwriting experience, knowledge of lending requirements and experience and proficiency in analyzing risk.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, use of the Internet and Encompass processing systems.
  • Proficient in analyzing risk and underwriting conventional and government loans to secondary market guidelines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must have excellent written communication and strong verbal skills.
  • Projects a professional image and collaborates with others to accomplish goals and demanding deadlines.
  • High School Diploma and commitment to continuing job related course work acceptable.
