Sr. Engineer Pay Range: $108,000 - $125,000 Engineer II Pay Range: $90,000 - $99,000 Engineer I Pay Range: $80,000 - $87,000 Join our team as an Engineer on the Modeling & Data Integrity team! The Engineer supports the systems, applications, data exchanges, displays, and models that enable SPP’s Reliability Coordination, Tariff Administration, Regional Scheduling, Market Operations, Balancing Authority, and Training services. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of input data and analytical results within SPP’s Energy Management Systems (EMS) and related platforms. The position requires strong engineering judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to make sound decisions—sometimes in time-sensitive or high-pressure situations—to support reliable grid operations and market functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should: Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation), Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Engineer I – no experience required
  • Engineer II - Two (2) years of job-related work experience - not eligible for remote work
  • Sr Engineer - Five (5) years of relevant Engineering experience; Professional Engineer License may satisfy one year of experience requirement.
  • Experience with power system engineering, operations engineering or transmission planning
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong inter-personal and team work skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of EMS state-estimator and/or power flow software
  • Experience with EMS or power flow modeling
  • Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards
  • Experience with Dispatch Training Simulators (DTS)
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer
  • Hold an active NERC System Operator Certification
  • A Master’s or Doctorate degree in a related field of study

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve EMS, Network, Commercial, and related models supporting reliability, market, balancing, tariff, and scheduling functions
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of real-time data, ICCP exchanges, displays, and state estimator results
  • Support load and wind forecasting systems and validate modeling work performed by the team
  • Follow modeling standards, change control procedures, and complete required SSAE16, NERC, and FERC compliance activities
  • Develop, test, and implement EMS applications, vendor software/hardware updates, and custom modeling tools
  • Coordinate model changes and data exchanges with internal departments, members, neighboring systems, and vendors
  • Document processes, research and resolve system issues, and communicate results to stakeholders
  • Provide leadership through stakeholder engagement, committee participation, mentoring, and team support
