The Senior Mine Planning Engineer at ASARCO LLC is a pivotal role responsible for the development and implementation of detailed mine plans for both short-term and long-term operations. This position is crucial for ensuring efficient and effective mining operations by integrating geological, geotechnical, and operational data to optimize resource extraction. The engineer will work closely with various teams to ensure that mining operations are conducted safely, in compliance with environmental regulations, and in a cost-effective manner. In this role, the engineer will develop and refine mine plans that maximize resource extraction and profitability. This includes creating detailed production schedules and coordinating with operations teams to ensure adherence to these plans. The engineer will utilize advanced mine planning software to model and analyze different mining scenarios and outcomes, ensuring that all aspects of the mine facilities, such as pushbacks, dumps, leach pads, stockpiles, and roads, are effectively designed and implemented. Data analysis is a key component of this position, as the engineer will analyze geological, geotechnical, and production data to inform planning decisions and identify opportunities for improvement. The engineer will also evaluate resource models and update them as necessary to reflect new data and changing conditions. Furthermore, the role involves implementing and recommending process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs, optimizing pit designs, drill and blast plans, and material handling processes to achieve production targets. Project management skills are essential, as the engineer will lead and coordinate mine planning projects, develop project timelines, and allocate resources effectively. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is necessary to ensure that mine plans align with broader operational goals. Compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and environmental guidelines is paramount, and the engineer will conduct risk assessments to incorporate safety and environmental considerations into planning and design. The engineer will also be responsible for preparing and presenting detailed reports on mine planning progress, performance, and forecasts to senior management and stakeholders, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) related to mine planning and production. Additionally, mentorship and training of junior engineers and mine planning staff will be part of the role, supporting the development of training materials and programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.
