About The Position

The Sr Medical Screener - Reception Technician is responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to qualify donors for the plasma pheresis process. This includes assisting qualified donors in completing the screening process, which involves assessing self-administered health history, answering basic medical questions, referring donors to medical staff when necessary, and performing health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. The role also involves educating new donors about therapeutic products made from donated plasma, explaining the screening process, and ensuring that all donor questions are answered accurately and professionally. Additionally, the technician may register applicants and transfer donors, answer phone calls, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 18 months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
  • Ability to perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of the time.
  • Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and have a high level of manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified donors in completing the screening process in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma and explain the screening process.
  • Register applicants and transfer donors based on training and operational needs.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide appropriate information to callers.
  • Maintain alertness to any reactions by donors during or after the pheresis process and notify appropriate staff.
  • Conduct daily calibration of equipment and resolve calibration issues according to SOPs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and create incident documentation.
  • Provide guidance and technical training to Reception Technicians and other staff as required.
  • Alert Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
