The Sr. Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist assists Supervisor/Manager with daily organization and supervision of work activities. Performs duties characteristic of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician. Provides technical assistance to managers and staff. Provides training/competency to staff. Facilitates communication between shifts, sections, and hospital departments. Ensures day to day operations are carried out by staff in a professional, service focused manner. Assumes duties of Supervisor/Manager in his/her absence. Assists in ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies including CAP, FDA, CMS (CLIA), TJC and AABB.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or Clinical Laboratory Science.
  • Sixty (60) semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS), or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from ASCP or AMT.
  • Minimum two (2) years related laboratory experience for MT/MLS or five (5) years for MLT.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow detailed laboratory procedures, protocols, and instructions.
  • Use of computers or ability to acquire skills to operate application packages used by department.
  • Minimum of 12 continuing education credits required each calendar year for continued employment.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work under stress and communicate test results professionally.
  • Experience utilizing Document Control Software.
  • Strong knowledge of QC and CAP standards.
  • Proficient in writing policies and clinical laboratory procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication both oral and written; meticulous attention to detail.
