Requirements

  • Generally requires 8-12+ years of Mechanical systems and estimating experience, including competitive bid and negotiated work as well as conceptual estimating
  • BS/BA in engineering, construction science, or relevant discipline strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Complete knowledge in building designs, specialized Mechanical systems, and construction materials
  • Extensive knowledge of alternative materials, means and methods to aid in the identification of cost savings/value engineering ideas when costs exceed owner’s construction budget
  • Knowledge and specific expertise with all construction materials, means, and methods
  • Strong math and technology ability with an analytical mindset
  • Proficient in relevant estimating and quantity take-off software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-house HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Suppression estimates.
  • Oversees the preparation of detailed deliverables and estimates for both competitive.
  • Represents Austin in meetings with owners and design consultants to discuss system designs and budget issues.
  • Detailed review of all documents including specifications to ensure the cost of the Mechanical systems accurately reflect complete and operating systems based upon the intent of the
  • Competent in different mechanical systems to make recommendations for best applications based on project size and scope.
  • Develop cost savings solutions based on potential and proposed MEP systems.
  • Responsible for maintenance of subcontractor bid lists and evaluation of subcontractors and suppliers ability and capacity
  • Identifies the appropriate subcontractor bidders based on the project size and type along with the current workload and manpower availability
  • Enhances relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, design consultants, )
  • Ensures the constructability of the design and compatibility with local building codes
  • Develops subcontractor RFPs, thoroughly analyses responses, and aids in interviewing subcontractors for selection
  • Engages in the training and development of all estimators assigned to the department as it relates to systems knowledge
  • Leads the transition from the preconstruction phase to the construction phase by transferring Mechanical system information to the construction team members and reviews all Subcontractor agreements
  • Tracks current pricing and compiles cost data for incorporation into estimating database
  • Serves as a technical resource for the project teams
