About The Position

Science, Engineering, Management Solutions, LLC (Sem-Sol) is a small business located in Albuquerque, NM, specializing in directed energy and pulsed power systems. Sem-Sol is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer who can translate novel and challenging problems into innovative and dynamic solutions. The ideal candidate will take a project from concept to delivery while staying on-time and within budget. This role involves working as part of a team and, when needed, leading the team, requiring strong character and communication skills. Sem-Sol offers a high level of autonomy, so the senior mechanical engineer must have excellent prioritization and project development skills, along with a strong knowledge of CAD software and drafting procedures. This position requires meeting Export Control compliance requirements, meaning the candidate must be a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15, and an active security clearance is required or the ability to obtain one.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college.
  • 10+ years’ experience in an engineering role.
  • 4+ years’ project management experience.
  • Working in a SolidWorks PDM environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks CAD software and drafting procedures.
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
  • Active Security Clearance is required or ability to obtain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2,000 hours of SolidWorks experience, including detail and assembly design, incorporating fit, form, and functionality of designs.
  • Drafting practices per ASME Y14.100Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
  • Experience leading technical teams
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience
  • Experience with design of vacuum systems, pulsed power, or directed energy
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Some experience with configuration control of documents.
  • Ability to effectively work on multiple tasks with changing priorities and interruptions.
  • PhD or MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and documentation of mechanical, fluid, and thermal system requirements to establish a system design.
  • Support the development, maintenance, or modification of system and component design and definition.
  • Perform and documenting analyses to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Support system components' designs/proposals standards to provide installation and detail documentation.
  • Perform initial and ongoing design reviews.
  • Deliver documentation offering a critical analysis and suggestions for correcting errors.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop an accurate accounting of all engineering hours required for various types of projects.
