Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Die Casting, Machining

EAST WEST MANUFACTURING LLCDunwoody, GA

About The Position

Calling all creatives, solvers, analysts, planners, doers, and visionaries! We are seeking an experienced Sr. Mechanical Product Development Engineer with high-pressure die casting and metals manufacturing experience. This is a senior individual contributor role that will support high-value, high-complexity programs in collaboration with a Principal Engineer, while also owning project work independently within the metals team. The primary focus is high pressure die cast aluminum components (including CNC machining), with opportunities to support and expand additional metal processes (sheet metal, fabrication, extrusions, forgings). This role is customer-facing and will partner with customer development teams, suppliers, and internal operations to drive DFM alignment, manufacturing readiness, and repeatable production at scale. JOB SUMMARY The Sr. Mechanical Product Development Engineer is responsible for bridging customer design intent to robust, scalable metal component manufacturing across East West’s global supply chain. This role translates early concepts into manufacturable designs, drives DFM decisions, and defines the technical path to production in partnership with internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing engineering resources in Asia. The engineer will contribute on high-complexity programs alongside a Principal Engineer and independently lead defined projects from technical feasibility through launch and sustaining support. Success in this role is measured by predictable program execution, manufacturing readiness at launch, and improved production capability, cost, quality, and delivery performance.

Requirements

  • 4-Year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 7–10+ years in mechanical/product development engineering supporting metal components from concept through launch and sustained production.
  • Strong foundation in metal manufacturing with high-pressure die casting aluminum and CNC machining strongly preferred; additional exposure to sheet metal, fabrication, extrusions, and/or forgings is a plus.
  • Demonstrated capability in DFM and GD&T (including tolerance-driven guidance), translating design intent into manufacturing-ready requirements and inspection strategy.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Creo preferred; similar CAD accepted), including creation of 3D models/assemblies and release of production-ready 2D drawings/specifications.
  • Working knowledge of process capability and quality controls (e.g., Cp/Cpk, inspection planning/control methods) and familiarity with CMM and precision metrology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability and willingness to be customer-facing (customer-facing experience preferred but not required); able to lead technical discussions, align stakeholders, and drive issue resolution across engineering, quality, operations, supply chain, and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Metals New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineering Provide engineering support to commercialize metal components from early concept through launch and sustained production, including manufacturability risk reduction and supplier readiness.
  • Support customer development/design teams with DFM consultation and GD&T interpretation to align design requirements with manufacturing capability and inspection strategy.
  • Partner with production, quality, and supply chain teams to drive execution on time, on cost, on quality, and on scope for assigned programs.
  • Guide and oversee manufacturing process development with suppliers and partner facilities (e.g., machining approach, fixturing strategy, tooling concepts, cycle assumptions, and dimensional stability), ensuring alignment to program requirements and commercial targets.
  • Conduct process capability reviews and help define critical characteristics, acceptance criteria, and control/inspection methods needed for repeatable production.
  • Perform root cause analysis for dimensional, cosmetic, and functional issues; develop and drive corrective actions with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Mechanical System & Component Design Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings, support CAE simulations and tolerance analysis.
  • Create and maintain 2D documentation (drawings, specifications, and related engineering documentation) to support internal and supplier execution.
  • Testing, Analysis & Validation Oversee validation activities conducted by suppliers or third parties (e.g., mechanical testing and metallurgy evaluations as applicable); review results and drive engineering conclusions and follow-up actions to confirm requirements are met.
  • Support prototype evaluations and recommend design iterations based on test results, manufacturing feedback, and production performance.
  • Continuous Improvement & Leadership Provide senior technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior mechanical and manufacturing engineers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and tooling teams to drive operational excellence.
