About The Position

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for Amazon Leo Tooling, you will support the program on the transition from development into stable production. You will develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment required for assembling and testing the satellite. You will need to convert the requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost effective, and accurate. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimate and scheduling. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years of project management, including resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status and prioritizing tasks experience
  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience with CAD Design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T
  • 1+ years of experience of structural analysis including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Experience handling ambiguous or undefined challenges through strong problem solving abilities
  • Strong background in the design of mechanism, bolted and welded structures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, test fixtures, rigging, and material handling
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Design analysis experience with stiffness/strength, structural dynamics, weldments, and bolted structures.
  • Experience designing tooling for aerospace hardware
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in assembly tooling
  • Experience with NX 3D modeling and Simcenter 3D FEA simulation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with vehicle, manufacturing, integration and operation teams to define and conceive creative solutions to unique problems.
  • Design fixtures, mechanisms, and other types of hardware to support safe, efficient, and reliable testing of satellite components.
  • Utilize engineering fundamentals to validate the design including hand-calculations and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Geometric design using 3D CAD (NX) for parts and assemblies and 2D engineering drawings to communicate design intent.
  • Project manage execution of design including budgeting, scheduling and working with manufacturing teams and vendors.
  • Work directly with manufacturing and operation teams on commissioning designs on production floor.
