Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing

Advanced Energy products are essential in creating laptops, tablets, cell phones, transportation, and solar energy. As a mechanical engineer here, you will tackle challenging, dynamic work with a highly energized and tight-knit team. No two days are the same. You will be exposed to a variety of innovative products and applications, as well as key customers in the semiconductor, flat panel, and other thin film markets. As a member of a cross functional product design team, you will contribute to product designs from conception through end user qualification and release into production. In this key role you will interact worldwide with all aspects of the business, key vendors, OEMs, and end users. You will see the work you do translating to the success for the company. Provides ground up mechanical support for product development and/or sustaining efforts. Provides direction to the team regarding thermal and structural challenges. Acts as a technical leader for all aspects of the mechanical engineering, design, and documentation involved.

  • Works as part of a team, balancing time, and scope to meet specification and scheduling demands.
  • Performs the design, analysis, and documentation of cold plates, heat sinks, and other typical electronic cooling mechanisms.
  • Models and Design of heat transfer systems related to air- and water-cooled electronic systems, including performing tests to validate simulations/calculations including performing numerical analysis of fluid transport, conjugate heat transfer, structural mechanics, and/or coupled, electromagnetic-mechanical cases.
  • Creates mechanical models/drawings to Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards and perform complex analyses of dimensional tolerance.
  • Ability to specify experiments and procedures to prove, test, and monitor design concepts.
  • Design for manufacturing (DFM) and assembly (DFA); ability to minimize complexity, part count, incorporate Poke Yoke and achieve high levels of product manufacturability, testability, and serviceability.
  • Design product and subcomponents on supply chain typical manufacturing methods for sheet metal, machined parts, casting, molding, extruding, stamping, and 3D printing.
  • Must show advanced computer skills with CAD software, SolidWorks or similar.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM) and assembly (DFA); ability to minimize complexity, part count, incorporate Poke Yoke and achieve high levels of product manufacturability, testability, and serviceability.
  • Must have a working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and Tolerance Stackup Analysis.
  • Knowledge of materials science, including nonlinear thermophysical behavior, materials compatibility, metal alloying, corrosion, electron and heat transfer, and dielectric loss.
  • Experience with numerical analysis software, such as ANSYS, CFD-ACE+, COMSOL, etc.
  • Experience working directly with customers to identify and negotiate design requirements.
  • Ability to specify experiments and procedures to prove, test, and monitor design concepts.
  • Ability to evaluate simulated and empirical data, understand error and uncertainty in both methods, correlate the data sets, and provide multiple solution paths for challenging problems.
  • Ability to self-manage project work from start to finish including conformance to scheduling and cost.
