This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

  • Assist in the development, design, and testing of new products or systems.
  • Work with a team of other engineers, scientists, and technicians on moderately complex projects.
  • Design, control, and implement mechanical systems and products.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with clients for all mechanical engineering project matters.
  • Manage the development and implementation of mechanical systems.
  • Design, maintain, implement, or improve mechanical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems.
  • Perform a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment.
  • Ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve project issues in a timely manner.
  • Establish construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications.
  • Write reports and compile data regarding existing and potential mechanical engineering projects.
  • Prepare specifications for purchases of mechanical equipment and materials.
  • Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential mechanical engineering products or projects.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of relevant experience.
  • OR Bachelor's Degree Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License as travel is required for this role.
  • Pipeline engineering/utility experience.
  • Understanding of 49 CFR Part 192, the Michigan Gas Safety Standards and ASME B31.8.
