JOB SUMMARY: The Sr. Mechanical Designer is responsible to provide “Concept to Production” design (3D &2D) for Automotive Emission Sensors/Controls, Thermal Management Devices such as valves and sensors, Drivetrain Actuation/Mechatronic devices, and Human Machine Interface (HMI) Switches. Serial Production is also supported through VA/VE activities. Duties will be accomplished both within the context of the SRI development process, customer development processes and global cross functional team participation.

Requirements

  • A.A.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Design or related field and 5+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Experience creating 3D/2D designs and drawings using NX, Catia or Creo.
  • Proficient in using PLM for data management, releases and workflow’s.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and interpret GD&T and ANSI/ASME Y14.5-2009.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes for plastic injection molding, casting, cold forming, stamping and assembly methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct component or assembly design analysis using simulation tools such as Dimensional Variational Analysis, Mold Flow, NX Mechanical simulation, Ansys electro-magnetic analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies and problem-solving methodologies such as Shainin Red-X
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a professional attitude in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive industry experience and experience with mechatronic modules is strongly preferred.
  • NX Desired.
  • Siemens Team Center desired.

Responsibilities

  • Applies mechanical engineering standard practices, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and technical problems.
  • Provides, suggest, and supports solutions for VA/VE and cost improvement activities
  • Applies and supports the identification of Customer design requirements related to design performance and material specifications including support and input into DFMEA creation. modification and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Creates and updates 3D model data and associated 2-D drawings of electronic and mechatronic systems applying knowledge of manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, casting, cold forming, stamping and assembly methods.
  • Performs and supports simulation analysis of design requirements such as kinematics, resin flow, structural FEA and tolerance analysis.
  • Generates and maintains e-BOM structures, Part Manufacturing Information (PMI) and analytical data within the PLM system.
  • Conducts CAD data feasibility, analysis and packaging studies at the component, module and vehicle system level.
  • Attends Customer/Supplier/SRI design meetings as the assigned Mechanical Design Engineer representative within the cross functional product development teams.
