About The Position

Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more — we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future. At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We’re creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security® vision. We’re erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We’re advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation. And we’re reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity. For over 60 years, the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) team has supported the Navy’s mission to provide affordable and credible strategic defense. We offer unique career opportunities and challenges on a program with a rich history and exciting future. We help keep this nation and our allies secure. The FBM Program is experiencing significant growth, and we need your expertise to deliver amazing new technologies to our customers while maintaining the technical requirements of the strategic deterrence. Join us in shaping a new era in space and find a career that's built for you. Mass Properties Engineering is the art and science of predicting the Mass Properties of a satellite, missile, aircraft, land vehicle or marine system before it is built, assessing and supervising the Mass Properties all through development, and finally performing highly accurate measurements to prove to our customers it will perform as proposed. Our Mass Properties Engineers help ensure our spacecraft get payloads to the right orbit around our planet or around other objects in our solar system, help our missile systems intercept a threat and protect our troops, help deliver a payload with pinpoint accuracy, or help us develop smaller, lightweight directed energy weapons, so they can be deployed on a variety of platforms. As a Mass Properties Engineer , you will be: Providing Mass Properties Engineering support to multiple missile, reentry, or special programs Working in a collaborative environment with junior and other senior Mass Properties engineers Providing technical guidance to program management, peers in other disciplines, and customers to ensure successful program performance Performing Mass Properties analyses and measurements Leading Mass Properties control and management efforts Coaching, mentoring, and training junior engineers in Mass Properties analysis, verification, and control Acting as a technical consultant to customers within the company Developing new and inventive Mass Properties tools and techniques in analysis, verification, and control

Requirements

  • Technical expertise in sophisticated Mass Properties analysis, including identification and quantification of error sources in accuracy and uncertainty analysis
  • Ability to perform coordinate system transformations
  • Proficiency in calculating the Mass Properties (mass, 3 axis centers of gravity, moments and products of inertia) of components and performing summation calculations into assemblies; developing simple software tools to perform these calculations
  • Experience with performing Mass Properties analysis to resolve weight, center of gravity, mass moments of inertia, and products of inertia from assemblies down to the component level; tracking changes impacting Mass Properties; preparing Mass Properties reports and supporting design reviews
  • Ability to Interpret detailed mechanism designs taken from manufacturing drawings or standard modeling software tools
  • Demonstrated experience in weight and center of gravity measurements by platform and multiple load cell methods, data reduction, and simple error analysis
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance

Nice To Haves
