About The Position

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system – reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility. We are looking for a talented Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our External Manufacturing team. In this role, you will work closely with external manufacturing partners and design teams and contribute to the Quality Engineering workstream to reduce overall manufacturing defects and warranty costs while increasing reliability. Your expertise in mechanical and electrical systems design will be instrumental in developing reliable, efficient, and innovative solutions which bring change transformation in our systems. The External Manufacturing team sits within the Quality organization and partners cross-functionally with internal teams and vendor manufacturers to ensure Symbotic’s automated solutions meet and exceed quality, functional, and reliability standards by designing and implementing manufacturing strategies, quality systems, and standards that enable scalability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness as the company grows. In close collaboration with Project Management, Quality Engineering, and external manufacturing partners, the team ensures quality is embedded throughout every phase—from supplier components and manufacturing processes through installation and field deployment—delivering consistent, high-performing systems for our customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical/electrical design principles and hands-on experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to select and integrate components such as motors, sensors, and actuators.
  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, electrical, casting, sheet metal, plastics).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Passion for robotics, automation, and innovation.
  • Up to 25% of travel may be required.
  • Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed bi-weekly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in industrial robotics, automation, or material handling (preferred).
  • Knowledge of PLM systems (preferred).
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement advanced manufacturing strategies for robotics and automation systems that improve scalability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to ensure manufacturability (DFM) and lead the seamless transfer of new products into production.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis and manufacturing readiness reviews for all new product introductions.
  • Oversee management of tooling and capital investments to support growth.
  • Perform analysis, including FEA and tolerance analysis, to optimize designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and product success.
  • Identify and troubleshoot design challenges, implement effective solutions, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Clearly communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and a culture of learning.
