About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer – Machine Assembly Operations is responsible for developing, improving, and supporting manufacturing processes for the assembly of industrial machinery and mechanical systems. This role ensures efficient, high-quality assembly operations by designing process flows, specifying tools and fixtures, and troubleshooting technical issues on the shop floor. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment focused on machine or equipment assembly.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assembly methods, fasteners, torque specifications, and mechanical alignment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) for tooling and layout design.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical sub-system integration in machinery.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience supporting hands-on production environments.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Willing to, and able to frequently move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for various reasons.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to move about inside and outside of equipment, warehouse and office space and position oneself to work on the equipment.
  • Will frequently operate hand and power tools, computers and other office equipment.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to access high places on the equipment,Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel by vehicle or airplane, domestically.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with custom or low-volume machinery assembly.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Familiarity with ERP and MES systems (e.g., SAP, Epicor, Plex).
  • Background in equipment startup, testing, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize assembly processes for complex machines and mechanical systems.
  • Design and implement tools, jigs, and fixtures to improve assembly efficiency and accuracy.
  • Create and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) specific to machine assembly.
  • Support production teams with technical guidance and real-time problem solving for mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic assembly issues.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to ensure manufacturability of new or modified machine designs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in assembly operations, focusing on cycle time reduction, quality improvements, and ergonomic safety.
  • Analyze downtime and process bottlenecks to recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with layout planning, equipment selection, and workstation design for assembly lines or cells.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, safety protocols, and applicable industry regulations.
