About The Position

We're on a mission to transform the world of drive unit inverters, and are seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to lead the charge. As a key member of our team, you'll play a critical role in reimagining and developing innovative manufacturing processes and equipment for Tesla’s next-generation inverter products. Your expertise will help us redefine the boundaries of what's possible, driving early development and pilot line activities that will set the stage for a new era of inverter technology.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer developing and deploying electronics assembly processes in high-volume automated production environments
  • Proven experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment and processes, and driving installation, commissioning, and ramp-up activities
  • Demonstrated expertise of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Automation (DFA) principles to ensure efficient, high-quality production processes
  • Proficiency in CAD tools, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA for designing mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling
  • Solid grasp of lean and six sigma principles, with experience using tools like DMAIC, RCA, DOE, FMEA, PCA, SPC, and Kaizen
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex data using tools like MySQL, Python, JMP, Tableau to make informed decisions

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop cutting-edge manufacturing equipment and processes for high-volume production of drive unit inverters
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles are applied to new product designs
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of pilot lines, including tool specification, equipment installation, process development, and transition to high-volume production
  • Work with equipment suppliers and integrators to design and develop custom equipment for pilot and high-volume production
  • Apply various manufacturing techniques, such as joining (fastening, laser welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, sintering) and quality assurance methods (vision inspection, leak testing, electrical testing)
  • Meet high-volume production targets (cycle time, availability, yield, quality, reliability) and drive continuous improvement
  • Lead cross-functional teams to solve complex problems using data-driven decision making, collaborative leadership, and rigorous problem-solving methods
