Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis has approximately 13,000 employees in 32 operating facilities on 4 continents. The Novelis Tax team is seeking a Sr Manager Tax, North America. The person in this role will report to the Director Tax, North America. The ideal candidate is responsible for all tax aspects (direct and indirect) of the Novelis North America Region, including inbound and outbound transactions in United States and Canada. The position is responsible for providing hands-on support to ensure the integrity and operational effectiveness of the tax function in the region, implementation of tax planning initiatives and the identification of potential tax issues and recommend solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in tax or accounting.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related work experience, specifically US and Canadian income tax provision and compliance.
  • Proven understanding of direct and indirect tax concepts and the ability to implement solutions.
  • Experience in handling multiple types of financial systems,
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Highly motivated strategic problem solver with strong leadership, organizational and project management skills and shown problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Change oriented: open to change (positive or negative) in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to interpret and strategically apply government regulations and related technical requirements to global business scenarios

  • Experience with OneStream and corresponding tax provision software, SAP, Oracle and Coupa.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a high level of integrity in handling the tax provision, effective tax rate (ETR), taxable income and deferred tax computations in accordance with ASC740, including the proper application of FIN 48.
  • Oversee preparation and review of U.S. federal and state income tax returns, estimated tax payments, and extensions
  • Lead indirect (U.S. sales and use, property and Canadian GST) tax processes and procedures including return preparation, audit defense, analytical and technical support, etc.
  • Lead the quarterly and annual regional tax forecasting process and effectively communicate results and variances to regional and tax leadership.
  • Oversee and respond to federal and state tax audits and inquiries.
  • Interface closely with other finance departments and business leaders to identify and implement tax opportunities and mitigate risks strategies
  • Be responsible for the annual R&D tax credit study.
  • Monitor legislative changes at US Federal, State and Canadian taxes, interpret the changes and accurately report the tax impact.
  • Work with Tax Director NNA & Operations on technical tax issues within US and Canada.
  • Support the implementation of the legal entity restructuring and rationalization in the region.
  • Own the preparation of all external tax reporting for NNA.
  • Partnering with external tax advisors to ensure all work performed by external advisors is completed in a timely and accurate manner; working directly with advisors to resolve issues on an as needed basis.
  • Lead automation of tax processes within the region.
  • Handle tax calendar and filing deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Maintain effective key controls and ensure the proper level of SOX tax documentation.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and lead audit timelines.
  • Perform independent critical analysis of proposed positions and proactively assist with building audit defense strategy.
