About The Position

This role will be based in our Mountain View, CA office. We're looking for a Senior Manager of Quality Engineering to lead a charter at the intersection of platform-building and developer productivity. This isn't just a testing role, it's about reimagining how quality is woven into the fabric of the engineering lifecycle itself. You'll build and scale the tools, frameworks, and automation platforms that empower hundreds of engineers to catch issues earlier, ship with greater confidence, and spend less time debugging and more time creating. This is an opportunity to build the quality infrastructure that an organization the size of LinkedIn runs on.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent technical experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on technical management experience
  • 7+ years industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions.
  • 5+ years experience in large-scale system design and software development
  • 3+ years experience leading developer productivity and quality automation efforts
  • Experience programming in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages (like Java/Python/C/C++/Scala/etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering/technical management and people management experience
  • 8+ years industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions.
  • 7+ years programming experience in languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Python, Go, etc.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders, and delivering impact in a matrix environment, through measurable metrics.
  • Experience in the design and development of performant, highly available, scalable web applications
  • Understanding of common performance patterns and anti-patterns in distributed systems
  • Successful track record of managing small teams of engineers to deliver multiple projects on time and with quality
  • Active involvement in the creation and execution of technical strategies and roadmaps
  • Hire and retain world-class engineers by providing career growth, mentoring, and high impact projects, while taking intelligent risks to improve the way work is done

Responsibilities

  • You will manage the performance and career development of a team of engineers, and own significant parts of LinkedIn products that require design, architecture, and coding.
  • You will participate with senior management in developing a long-term technology roadmap.
  • You will evaluate and prioritize factors to make a weighted decision, arriving at a solution that tackles ambiguity in complex problems and present subjective opinions.
  • You will be a role model and professional coach for engineers and managers with a strong bias for action and focus on craftsmanship, while inspiring the team to develop a solution-oriented mindset.
  • You will work with peers across teams to support and leverage a shared technical stack.
  • You will manage teams to scale distributed applications, make architectural trade-offs applying synchronous and asynchronous design patterns, review code, and deliver with speediness and quality.
  • You will develop multi-tier scalable, high-volume performing, and reliable user-centric applications that operate 24x7.
  • You will produce high-quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed and checked in regularly for continuous integration.

  • The pay range for this role is $181,000 to $297,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
