About The Position

This role is a Senior Production Manager position on the reprint team, working primarily with Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group (MCPG) titles. The Senior Production Manager will support the MCPG Reprint team by submitting new orders, tracking orders in progress, running estimates, routing corrections, reviewing quality on completed samples, and working closely with both vendors and our internal departments. This role’s primary focus will be reprints of YA and middle-grade novels, picture books, graphic novels, and board books, however, the Senior Production Manager will also be expected to learn the workflows for and support the Adult Trade reprint team as needed. The Senior Production Manager must have a strong background in and knowledge of both 1-color and 4-color book production. They must be able to execute requests quickly, communicate with all levels of the company, work with all members of the department, and create clear and concise reports.

Requirements

  • At least 7+ years production experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent amount of office/admin experience
  • Experience with 1-color and 4-color book production
  • Technical knowledge of offset and digital printing
  • Basic math and cost analysis skills
  • Excellent communication - written and verbal
  • Technical proficiencies preferred: Google Workspace, Microsoft Excel and PC/Windows
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Adaptability, flexibility and recognition and adjustment of priorities as needed
  • Work independently but also great collaboration skill
  • Work well under pressure

Nice To Haves

  • Color theory and color correcting for offset print production (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Manage reprint orders of 1-color and 4-color titles (including, but not limited to, gathering and assessing costs, issuing purchase orders, routing and reviewing outgoing files for corrections, tracking schedules, reviewing digital and physical proofs, addressing quality issues, and reviewing/approving final invoices).
  • Create margin estimates for offset and digital reprints.
  • Analyze competitive bids between vendors.
  • Provide coverage and support for other members of the Reprint Production team as needed.
  • Prepare for and attend weekly interdepartmental meetings.
  • Assist in the testing and documentation of workflows.
