This position is responsible for developing systems for healthcare workers, specifically related to airway management in acute care settings such as Operation Room, Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department. You will be at the junction of user experience and systems engineering, applying deep technical expertise to realize challenging design goals. The candidate will be responsible for leading a team of systems engineers and designers in the definition, development, and support of complex medical device systems used to support airway management and intubation. Functional Excellence Drive functional strategy to advance Systems & Design Engineering through process, best practices, and organizational changes. Lead, direct, and review the work of individual contributors on the Systems & Design Engineering team to ensure adherence to functional excellence expectations. Identify , develop, and/or execute training to improve product, technology, and clinical subject matter expertise within the group. Lead cross-functional teams to make appropriate , timely decisions and recommendations that result in the successful completion of major organizational objectives . Apply human-centered design principles and familiarity with formative and summative assessments. Product Ownership Serve as the primary owner of the product roadmap for airway management solutions, prioritizing features and enhancements based on customer needs, business objectives , and technical feasibility. Translate complex market insights and customer feedback into actionable product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for engineering and design teams. Collaborate with stakeholders— including clinicians, healthcare workers, regulatory, and commercial teams—to gather feedback and iterate on product design and functionality. Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, competitive landscape, and user personas to inform product strategy and positioning. Ensure that product releases deliver maximum value to users and stakeholders, balancing innovation with regulatory and quality requirements. Monitor key product metrics and user feedback to drive continuous improvement and inform future development. Talent Development Provide direct management and mentorship for the Systems & Design team to achieve organizational goals. Develop Systems & Design Engineering talent to be effective leaders, including technical problem solving, soft skills, and communication. Provide targeted opportunities to develop and stretch team members’ knowledge and capabilities. Recruit individuals whose skills will allow us to deliver products that meaningfully impact patient care. Program Execution Communicate with functional partners to plan, evaluate, and develop technical solutions. Ensure programs have robust technical solutions and risk mitigation plans. Lead multiple design activities in the product development lifecycle, including identification, planning, monitoring, and executing tasks for entire projects. Demonstrate understanding of medical product development, device requirements, regulations, and standards; provide a voice of authority in ambiguous terrain. Support key efforts if major technical challenges are identified . Strategic Planning Understand the R&D future portfolio and align talent to achieve goals. Advocate for new systems model-based tools, processes, and practices, and other innovative approaches to product development. Identify long-term opportunities that will continue to advance the systems & design engineering function over a 3– 5 year time horizon. Partner in assessing viability and technical risks of specific technologies being considered. Assess long-term opportunities with other companies or academic efforts. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement Act as the voice of the customer, championing user needs and clinical requirements throughout the product lifecycle. Lead efforts to validate product concepts and designs through engagement with key opinion leaders, clinicians, and end users. Collaborate with marketing and commercial teams to develop positioning and messaging that resonates with target segments.
