About The Position

OVERVIEW: The Sr Manager of Oncology Financial Navigation, manages and coordinates financial navigation services across Winship sites, ensuring patients access needed financial resources. This role includes developing strategies to help patients manage their financial responsibilities, supervising a team of financial navigators, providing training and support, and standardizing processes. The position reports to Winship leadership. The manager collaborates with the revenue cycle, pharmacy and clinical teams to address financial barriers faced by patients. This role is responsible for establishing, meeting and exceeding operational workflow, productivity and results standards related to the above functions. The position also organizes, manages, and monitors the performance and provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, hires, orients and trains employees. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Acts as a key resource on matters pertaining to patient financial navigation for assigned department(s). Performs regular review of quality and skill sets of team resources. Anticipates growth needs. Trains staff as appropriate on financial navigation activities, including use of supporting platforms. Liaisons between external customers and stakeholders on all Winship financial navigation services and related issues. The Sr Manager will supervise a team of oncology financial navigators who will monitor in-house accounts to improve revenue and timely payment of claims. Performs cost estimates and follow guidelines associated with pre-payment process. Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by Emory Healthcare. Sr Mgr, Oncology Financial Navigator, position must have knowledge of all aspects of Emory Healthcare processes from registration to billing. Acts as a liaison between PFS and clinic operations to resolve customer inquiries related to billing and customer satisfaction in a timely matter. Complete cost estimates and follow guidelines associated with pre-payment process. Responsible for training new staff members. Performs all aspects of benefits verification. Provide financial assistance for assigned sections when required. Maintain a knowledge base of patient financial assistance and co-pay programs available. Ability to solve problems independently and must be strongly vested in team management. Responsible for collaborating with physicians and members of the care delivery team to triage, coordinate and consistently manage the patient care financial experience. Position works with patients and families to answer questions, provide emotional support and resolve issues concerning the administrative coordination of their care. Collaborate with Social Workers and Clinical staff regarding patient financial resources when required. Perform all aspects of benefits verification. Requires knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Third-Party carriers and referrals and precertification procedures. Employee may be responsible for other duties as assigned. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required in healthcare administration, or a related area.
  • 5-7 years of total experience with 3-5 years of management experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of oncology financial navigation OR any combination of equivalent education and experience (i.e., Associate's and 4 years' experience in oncology financial navigation)
  • Some travel may be required between EHC site locations
  • Demonstrates understanding in how to manage resources across an organization to maximize organization impact in multiple clinical specialties (shared resources).
  • Experience with ambulatory care environments and ability to translate and embed standard operating procedures and process into the clinical environment where appropriate.
  • Maintains standards of professional practice, strict confidentiality, advocacy and ethics.
  • Adheres to department and organizational policies and procedures.

  • Always uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills and discretion and in all forms of communication with patients and with clinic staff.

  • Exceptional communication, conflict resolution, organization, follow-up and negotiation skills required.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume caseload environment required.
  • Ability to utilize software relevant to the job, including Microsoft Office Suite, medical records systems and medical billing systems.
