About The Position

The Sr. Manager of Cybersecurity Engineering is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of MACU’s cybersecurity technologies. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership, driving the engineering, automation, integration, and continuous enhancement of enterprise security controls. The Sr. Manager works collaboratively with Cybersecurity Architecture to ensure alignment with architectural standards and long-term strategy, while retaining ownership over engineering execution, platform maturity, and technical enablement across the organization.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience with deep expertise in security engineering, platform management, and technical implementation.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a direct manager.
  • Strong background leading and mentoring engineers and administrators, promoting a high-performance engineering culture.
  • Proven ability to operationalize cybersecurity frameworks and implement enterprise-grade security controls.
  • Experience collaborating with Cybersecurity Architecture & other IT teams to ensure aligned and scalable engineering outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Deep understanding of security engineering, secure design principles, and platform lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on expertise with enterprise security technologies (SIEM, EDR, IAM, network security, cloud security platforms, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design resilient solutions to mitigate vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate engineering concepts to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with IT, development, cloud, legal, compliance, and executive leadership.
  • Creates a sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability within the security engineering team.
  • Coaches and develops technical staff to grow their capabilities and advance engineering maturity.
  • Leads work effectively across organizational functions and technical domains.
  • Responsible for team output, engineering quality, and delivery of secure, reliable solutions.
  • Oversees the engineering, integration, and optimization of cybersecurity platforms across the enterprise.
  • Leads the execution of engineering initiatives that support detection, prevention, hardening, automation, and securebydesign principles.
  • Directs and evaluates engineering team performance to support continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manages engineering workflows, prioritization, and platform decisions that influence enterprise security posture.
  • Anticipates and mitigates security risks through proactive engineering improvements, secure configurations, and architectural collaboration.
  • Sets engineering goals and KPIs tied to risk reduction, automation, platform stability, and maturity of technical controls.
  • Provides input into cybersecurity strategy from an engineering perspective, influencing platform evolution and control modernization.
  • Balances long-term engineering planning with rapid execution to meet evolving business and threat landscape needs.
  • Uses deep knowledge of threat intelligence, security controls, and engineering methodologies to design effective security solutions.
  • Applies data-driven insights and telemetry to prioritize engineering improvements and anticipate attack vectors.
  • Performs in-depth analysis of security data, integrations, and platform behavior to drive proactive control enhancements.
  • Implements both tactical and strategic engineering improvements such as: Platform design, automation, securing baselines, and hardening with measurable results.

  • CISSP, CISM, Security X (formerly CASP+), CEH or equivalent certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering, deployment, and optimization of enterprise cybersecurity platforms (SIEM, SOAR, EDR, IAM, firewalls, cloud security, UEBA, etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with Cybersecurity Architecture to align security patterns, reference architectures, and future-state capabilities, while ensuring engineering decisions support architectural direction.
  • Build and maintain technical standards, baseline configurations, and automation to ensure consistent and effective security control implementation.
  • Partner with Infrastructure, Network, Cloud, and Application teams to integrate security controls early in project lifecycles and ensure secure technical implementations.
  • Develop and manage the security engineering roadmap, ensuring it aligns with organizational needs, operational priorities, and the architectural function’s strategic guidance.
  • Support vulnerability management by improving scanning capabilities, remediation workflows, platform integrations, and engineering-driven control enhancements.
  • Work with incident response and threat intelligence teams to engineer detection logic, improve telemetry quality, and strengthen investigative capabilities.
  • Drive post-incident engineering improvements, including root cause analysis, hardening actions, and automation opportunities.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, threats, and engineering best practices and translate them into actionable engineering initiatives.
  • Ensure security engineering activities adhere to internal policies, architecture guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and technology partnerships to support platform lifecycle planning and service optimization.
  • Contribute engineering insights to broader cybersecurity strategy, especially in areas related to tooling evolution, automation, cloud platform maturity, and technical debt reduction.
  • Foster a team culture of innovation, accountability, engineering excellence, and continuous learning.
