About The Position

UPMC is hiring a Sr. Manager, IT to join their Health Plan App Engineering Department. The hiring manager is looking for an experienced leader who has Prem/Cloud Infrastructure knowledge, experience in IT Infrastructure, and experience leading teams within Agile and SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environments. Purpose: The Sr. Manager, IT Engineering provides leadership to the day-to-day operation, support, development, installation, and delivery of IT Engineering products and services within the Information Services Division. The Sr. Manager, IT Engineering is further responsible for the identification and development of talent and for managing performance to ensure business goals and objectives are met, if not exceeded. This role is responsible for setting the vision/goals for areas of oversight.

Requirements

  • Eleven years of total related experience, with at least four years' experience in a leadership role OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with IT Engineering best practices, architecture, and framework.
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving significant continual development.
  • Strong project management, problem solving, organizational, relationship, communication, and negotiation skills (oral and written) are required.
  • Strong understanding of IT strategy and how it relates to business objectives.
  • Ability to apply extensive experience to highly complex problems.
  • On Prem/Cloud Infrastructure knowledge
  • Experience in IT Infrastructure, both On-Premise and Cloud Technologies.
  • Experience with Hybrid Cloud Architecture and the Azure Platform
  • Understanding of Microsoft Core Infrastructure (On-Premise)
  • Automation, Scripting, and DevOps practices
  • Reliability Engineering process maturity
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams within Agile and SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environments

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on infrastructure engineering experience is helpful.
  • Hybrid Cloud adoption practices is essential.
  • Operational leadership experience leading IT Support or other IT Infrastructure teams is needed.
  • Experience with large-scale systems in enterprise environments is needed.
  • Experience with IBMi.
  • Current or Past UPMC employee or contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the cross-functional IT Infrastructure Dept.
  • Managing engineers, analysts, and vendors.
  • Working across teams of architects, security, data and application specialists.
  • Contributes to defining department's long-term strategy and goals.
  • Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications (including, but not limited to, executive level summaries/presentations) in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish all work efforts and projects between multiple teams and business functions.
  • Identify, create and apply process improvement to increase product and service quality to achieve business objectives.
  • Participates in defining capital and operating budget needs. Owns a portion of overall department budget and is responsible for managing to budget in defined scope.
  • Facilitates successful completion of projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with multiple teams and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts.
  • Responsible for ensuring that service is provided to the ISD client community, patients, families and visitors, while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information through physical and electronic measures.
  • Completes performance evaluations and coaches/mentor's staff.
  • Manages operational responsibilities of multiple and/or highly complex teams comprised of IT Engineering professionals.
  • Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with management, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from management and team for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.
