The Sr. Manager, Football Operations and Media Data Science is responsible for the aggregation, analysis, modeling, and reporting of data and analytics related to the intersection of Football Operations and game viewership. This includes objective and advanced measures of game competitiveness, equity, leverage, and excitement, as well as using those inputs in the projections of game viewership. The position will serve within the NFL’s central data and analytics organization and report to the Director of Analytical Research and Governance, as well as collaborate with the Senior Director of Football Data and Analytics and the Vice President of Media Reporting and Analytics.

  • Collaborate with Media Reporting and Broadcast departments regarding metrics for game viewership and projected viewership
  • Build, validate, and automate statistical/machine learning models for Football Operations/Media related data, including game competitiveness, equity, leverage, and excitement, and leverage those factors and others to predict NFL game viewership
  • Curate and enhance the NFL’s Football Operations data analytics projects, including data cleansing, analysis, and reporting
  • Work within the central data and analytics team to develop new and relevant metrics for cross-sectional usage across the league
  • Collaborate with the Football Operations group on data and analytics events, including the Big Data Bowl
  • Attend in-person meetings at various points in the NFL calendar
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and reporting on request
  • 7+ years of experience of building statistical models in sports
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in statistics, data science, computer science, or related fields
  • Advanced knowledge of R
  • Basic knowledge of python
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to analyze highly sensitive and confidential data
  • Strong knowledge of the National Football League and its teams
  • Master’s degree or higher in statistics, data science, computer science, or other related fields, or the equivalent in industry training.
  • Experience with the tidymodels package in R
  • Experience building Shiny apps
  • Experience building R packages
  • Advanced knowledge of Python
  • Understanding of Nielsen viewership and media math
  • Familiarity and understanding of generalized linear models, tree-based methods, methods for supervised and unsupervised learning, and models of spatio-temporal data
  • Familiarity with SQL
