The Senior Manager, External Communications, reports to the Director, External Communications, and is responsible for managing both short- and long-term communications strategies and programs to enhance and protect the company’s external reputation. This role focuses on communications strategy and execution for critical corporate areas such as environmental solutions, hazardous waste management, labor relations, and company disposal facilities. Key duties include planning, monitoring, and acting on proactive media opportunities, managing issues, representing the company with media, and training executives for media engagement. The position involves developing messaging for various audiences and creating content for media, executives, corporate reports, and social platforms. The Senior Manager will collaborate directly with other functional teams and stakeholders to quickly align company positioning, provide direction to external agencies, establish meaningful KPIs, and ensure objectives are met. This role requires close partnership with internal teams like operations, legal, sustainability, public affairs, and investor relations to develop and execute effective strategies, tactics, and messaging that protect and advance the brand. The individual will also serve as a company spokesperson. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong understanding of corporate issues management, sustainability, and communications best practices are essential. The role demands the ability to triage immediate and long-term communications needs in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
