About The Position

Lead the Energy Strategy and Optimization efforts for Disney Cruise Line (DCL) Marine & Technical Operations (MTO) focused on establishing a comprehensive fleet wide program by leveraging data collection and analysis to develop innovative strategies that will drive reliability, reduce risks, ensure regulatory compliance, while delivering fuel optimization and procurement of cost effective energy sources. This leader will be required to leverage superior technical knowledge, analytical, collaboration, communication and project management expertise to effectively drive large-scale projects and influence all levels of internal and external partners and stakeholders. Will work closely with the DCL MTO Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure full integration with MTO business objectives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in energy management, ideally within the maritime industry.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of vessel operations and energy efficient technologies, including an ability to research and identify future/emerging concepts and technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative analysis and data literacy, with the capacity to deliver meaningful insights as part of a data-driven narrative.
  • Comprehensive understanding of project management principles, methodologies, techniques, and processes.
  • Collaboratively guiding decisions by leveraging your position or expertise.
  • Flexible, adaptable and resourceful when managing changing timelines and multiple deliverables.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership of technical professionals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marine or mechanical engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy and vision: Develop and lead DCL’s energy management vision, aligning costs, operational targets and sustainability targets. Establish, implement and continuously improve a comprehensive energy risk strategy that mitigates market volatility and regulatory impact.
  • Fleet energy performance analysis: Tracking and analyzing vessel operational fuel efficiency, including voyage execution, engine performance, auxiliary systems, and hull performance, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Regulatory compliance: Ensuring adherence to international shipping regulations regarding emissions and energy efficiency, such as IMO DCS, EU MRV, MARPOL, and others. Identify and assess renewable energy opportunities and technologies that support decarbonization, regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.
  • Fuel optimization: Developing and implementing strategies to reduce fuel consumption and costs across the fleet, involving the evaluation of route optimization, and the assessment of new technologies or fuel sources.
  • Data management and reporting: Collecting, verifying, and submitting energy-related data for compliance and internal reporting, utilizing performance dashboards and reports, and collaborating with operating teams to improve data quality and analysis. Provide executive-level reporting on key energy program metrics, risks, and strategic opportunities to senior leadership.
  • Project management: Drive projects related to marine operational improvements, energy efficiency initiatives, and the implementation of energy-saving technologies. Establish clear performance targets and ROI expectations in partnership with Operations teams.
  • Collaboration and communication: Working closely with shipboard and shoreside teams (technical, operations, environmental, finance, legal, procurement, etc.), and external stakeholders, to implement energy management plans into business functions and processes, share insights, and ensure smooth operations.
  • Research and innovation: Staying current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological innovations in marine energy efficiency, assessing their potential benefits, risks, challenges and potential application to DCL fleet.
  • Energy Procurement: Work with responsible partners to identify and systematically review purchasing strategies/contracts and vendor relationships for diesel, bio diesel, liquid natural gas and other fuel sources as needed, balancing service, quality, reliability, risk exposure, innovation and price.Identify and assess renewable energy opportunities and technologies that support decarbonization, regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.
  • Leadership and development: Responsible for and lead salaried Cast(s) in the strategic development of operational enhancement efforts focused on optimizing efficiencies while maintaining DCL’s competitive strength (brand relevancy). Inspire, mentor and develop team members to create a cultural environment that contributes to a high performing, energetic team that is committed to excellence and continuous improvement.
