About The Position

Nextracker is the industry leader in smart solar tracking solutions, powering solar farms around the world with cutting-edge technology. Our mission is to advance the clean energy transition with innovation and integrity. Our Self Powered Controllers (SPCs) are distributed embedded systems deployed at scale across solar sites, controlling individual tracker rows and operating under strict power and reliability constraints. We are seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to lead the development of the SPC software platform within our solar tracker product line. This is an on-site position based in Fremont California and will be responsible for managing a high-performing team of embedded firmware and edge software developers. This role involves technical leadership, hands-on guidance, and project ownership to ensure timely delivery of robust, reliable, and power-efficient software running on our SPC systems. You will play a critical role in the strategy and execution of software features that enable precise motion control, device autonomy, and reliable communication with Network Control Units (NCUs) across large-scale solar deployments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of software development experience, with 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong experience with embedded software development using C/C++ on microcontroller-based systems.
  • Solid understanding of low-power design, real-time behavior, and hardware-software integration.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams delivering field-deployed embedded products.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with wireless communication protocols such as Zigbee or similar mesh networks.
  • Experience with bootloaders, firmware update mechanisms, and device lifecycle management.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for embedded firmware and Git-based workflows.
  • Understanding of distributed control systems and fault-tolerant design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of software developers focused on the SPC embedded platform.
  • Own and drive software project planning, prioritization, and delivery across multiple release cycles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, NCU, QA, manufacturing, and product management.
  • Oversee task assignments, sprint planning, and progress tracking using agile methodologies.
  • Ensure software quality through rigorous code reviews, testing practices, and embedded DevOps processes.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions with a focus on reliability, power efficiency, and long-term maintainability.
  • Drive team development through coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Facilitate technical problem-solving and remove roadblocks for the team.
