About The Position

The Senior Manager of Environmental Compliance is responsible for overseeing environmental compliance programs across Cabela's diverse operations, which include over 160 retail locations, multiple manufacturing sites, and distribution centers. This role ensures adherence to environmental regulations, manages environmental permits, and coordinates with environmental consultants. The position also involves supervising a direct report specializing in hazmat shipping and hazardous waste disposal, making it crucial for maintaining compliance and promoting sustainability within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7-10 years of experience in environmental compliance management, preferably within a multi-location environment including retail, manufacturing, and distribution.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, including RCRA and DOT hazmat shipping requirements.
  • Proven experience in managing environmental permits and working with environmental consultants.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or other relevant environmental certifications.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
  • Master's degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the acquisition, renewal, and compliance of all environmental permits across retail, manufacturing, and distribution locations.
  • Ensure all locations comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Maintain and update permit documentation and ensure timely submissions to regulatory bodies.
  • Select, manage, and coordinate activities of external environmental consultants.
  • Oversee environmental assessments, audits, and remediation projects conducted by consultants.
  • Review and approve reports and recommendations provided by consultants.
  • Develop and implement environmental compliance programs and policies for all sites.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and inspections to ensure adherence to environmental standards and regulations.
  • Identify and address any non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Supervise one direct report specializing in hazmat shipping and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and RCRA requirements related to hazmat shipping and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on hazmat shipping and hazardous waste disposal requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of all environmental compliance activities.
  • Prepare regular reports on environmental performance for senior management.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of incidents involving hazardous materials.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to environmental compliance and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Implement emergency response plans for environmental incidents.
  • Identify opportunities for improving environmental performance and sustainability.
