Since our founding in 1999 as an 501(c)(3) public charity, DAFgiving360 donors have recommended over $40 billion in grants to more than 270,000 charities. DAFgiving360 has entered into a services agreement with Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. for administrative and other services, including human resources. This position will be an employee of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and will be subject to its policies and procedures but will report to and be accountable to DAFgiving360 for day-to-day activities. Reporting to the Director of the Charitable Strategies Group (CSG) at DAFgiving360, the Sr. Manager is primarily responsible for reviewing illiquid and other complex noncash asset contributions for gift acceptance. The Sr. Manager role sits within CSG, which is the team of experts dedicated to performing due diligence on and ultimately to process illiquid and other complex noncash asset contributions to DAFgiving360, including but not limited to: Closely held business interests (C corp, LLC, LP, and S corp), Real estate (residential and commercial), Restricted stock and equity compensation, Life insurance, Cryptocurrency, Artwork and other collectibles, Other complex processes, such as foundation dissolution asset transfer, trust and estate gifts, and other trust terminations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and J.D, CPA, or CFP strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Planned giving and/or law firm (or equivalent transactional) experience highly preferred, including but not limited to: tax planning; exempt organizations; corporate transactions and estate planning; financial services/wealth management; securities law; alternative investments; and impact investing.
  • Expert-level financial, tax, and philanthropic planning knowledge, with specific attention to tax, corporate transactions, securities law, exempt organizations, and estate planning strategies.
  • Public speaking experience strongly preferred, with demonstrated ability to ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, good judgment, explain complex subjects in a simple manner to various audiences, convey authority and professionalism, with approachable demeanor, and engage audiences of one or many with compelling presentations.
  • Knowledge of alternative charitable giving solutions in the illiquid asset space and ability to review and understand financial statements, with demonstrated understanding of accounting/tax issues.
  • Knowledge and experience in partnership taxation and UBTI.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective professional relationships at all levels of organizations and in the charitable and advisor communities.

Responsibilities

  • Handle client and advisor inquiries and respond to process and potential tax implication related to contributions of illiquid and other complex noncash assets.
  • Independently review transactions related to privately held companies, restricted stock, and other complex asset inquiries to determine suitability for charitable contribution and the best route for acceptance while mitigating risk.
  • Perform all aspects of noncash asset due diligence, including document review and thorough assessment and mitigation of risks and recommend approval for acceptance.
  • Facilitate the transfer, acceptance, and liquidation of approved noncash asset contributions, and track these activities within a CRM system to monitor, assess, and report on workflow.
  • Prepare new and/or updated existing procedures and job aids to guide due diligence reviews and enhance operational excellence.
  • Respond to internal partner questions and requests for information relating to tax, corporate transactions, securities law, alternative investments, exempt organizations, and estate/charitable planning strategies.
  • Support Business Development, Charitable Consulting, and Marketing teams with development and review of educational and marketing literature to ensure content accuracy and clarity.
  • Draft new client-facing articles and presentation decks, as requested.
  • Cross enterprise partnership to develop and implement acquisition and service to support DAFgiving360 sales initiatives and consult internally and externally, in support of a variety of business development opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver internal trainings to Schwab Charitable business units on illiquid and complex noncash assets gift acceptance procedures and best practices.
