As a Sr. Manager, Business Process Lead – Tax, at Gilead you will ... Act primarily as a senior individual‑contributor responsible for diagnosing root causes in order to design scalable, repeatable, and auditable Excel-based tax processes that facilitate insight. This role will partner closely with tax subject matter experts (SMEs) in international tax, transfer pricing, federal, and state/local tax in order to build sufficient Tax domain knowledge to elicit clear business requirements and challenge assumptions constructively. The ideal candidate is passionate about process efficiency, understands how to translate tax requirements into practical workflows, and thrives in environments where they drive clarity and improvement. Location: Foster City, CA (hybrid)

Requirements

  • 8+ years with BS/BA OR 6+ years with MS/MA/MBA OR 2+ years with PhD/PharmD
  • 8+ years of relevant experience supporting Tax, Finance, Controllership, or Audit processes with 3+ years in a global publicly traded corporate finance department
  • Strong working experience with data including a solid understanding of data structures, data integrity, and the ability to troubleshoot data-related problems
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Suite including Excel, Visio, and Teams
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and process designs
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to “hear what people need” to uncover root causes
  • Demonstrated curiosity and initiative in learning about emerging technologies and applications to Tax
  • Self-starter with a passion for process improvement and ownership
  • Proven project management skills including managing and prioritizing multiple simultaneous projects

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Tax SMEs to understand current-state processes and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Design future-state processes that are scalable, repeatable, and auditable, with a focus on operational efficiency, data integrity, and data readiness
  • Document processes and controls such that an Analyst can execute the process as well as to support internal and external audit requirements
  • Establish and enforce process, data, and documentation standards, best practices, and internal control requirements (including SOX compliance)
  • Maintain and evolve processes by assessing impact of changes in business data or tax requirements, updating requirements, process design, and documentation as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with Tax, Finance, and IT stakeholders by translating tax business requirements into clear process and data requirements, and explaining your process impacts and dependencies.
