About The Position

Join PPG as a visionary leader in Corporate Science & Technology (S&T) Analytical Science, where you will spearhead sophisticated, cutting-edge analytical teams at the Allison Park and Monroeville sites while serving as the regional analytical coordinator for the Americas. In this high-impact senior -level role, you will command a dynamic organization of 3-5 teams totaling 50-70 talented professionals, with 5-10 direct reports—including 2-4 senior technical leaders and 4-6 group leaders. Reporting to the Director of Material Science and Analytical Technology (MSAT) and accountable to the SSG OLED Business Director, you will drive the mission of creating tangible value for PPG through world-class analytical science. This is a strategically expansive position that offers unparalleled visibility across the entire PPG enterprise—from raw materials and production to technical service, customer-facing challenges, and global R&D innovation. You will deploy a sophisticated suite of advanced chemical analysis tools and characterization techniques to solve complex, high-stakes problems wherever they arise, whether supporting emergent commercial root-cause investigations with direct customer interaction or pioneering front-end research to deepen fundamental understanding of coatings technology. The Sr. Manager role is intellectually demanding and multifaceted: ensuring instruments operate at peak performance, tests are executed with rigor, quality standards are uncompromising, and characterization delivers actionable insights. You will balance a broad portfolio of responsibilities—ranging from strategic resource allocation across new product development (NPD), field support, resin synthesis, and specialty groups (OLED/ photochromics ), to managing a $15MM annual budget, capital planning, and internal/external billing recovery. By charging appropriately for non-R&D work and ensuring costs are recovered back into the R&D budget, you will maintain financial equilibrium while driving profitability and resource efficiency. Stakeholder management is at the heart of this role: navigating delicate relationships across the board, technology leadership, product portfolio teams, regional/global technical directors, legal, finance, sales, and beyond. Through strategic planning, agile reprioritization, clear communication of project status, risks, and benefits, and influential leadership, you will build trust, resolve critical business challenges, and position yourself as a key player in PPG's success. The upside is extraordinary—broad exposure to every facet of the company, deep immersion in hard science, and the opportunity to showcase your abilities while forging lasting relationships across the organization. This is not just a leadership position; it is a platform for sophisticated problem-solving, value creation, and career-defining impact at one of the world's leading coatings innovators. If you thrive on complexity, scientific excellence, and strategic influence in a matrixed, fast-moving environment, this role offers a rare chance to shape PPG's future through analytical mastery.
