About The Position

The Sr. Machinist is responsible for manually writing and entering G-Code for both CNC mills and CNC lathes, as well as setting up, inspecting, and operating machines to produce parts. The Senior Machinist collaborates with the Lead Machinist to determine the most effective approach for incoming jobs, including planning machining steps and procedures. Additional responsibilities include maintaining equipment, such as monitoring oil levels and replacing filters—and machining component parts and assemblies.

Requirements

  • Ability to set up and program CNC milling machines and lathe machines
  • Read and understand mechanical drawings, schematics, and sketches, shop math
  • Will work with high integrity and complies with corporate guidelines on business ethics
  • Follow company and department rules and policies; team players a must.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills to ensure ability to organize and execute planning methods
  • Good computer skills and fundamentals
  • High school/GED, or five to seven years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Candidates must have a verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and meet company standards for driving eligibility. This includes maintaining a clean driving record, which will be verified through a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Eight years of experience in related industry
  • Prior experience with manual Lathe, and Mills a plus
  • Prior machine shop experience a plus
  • Mechanical background a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Examine and inspect work progress equipment
  • Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures
  • Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, etc.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products
  • Keep up with Quality control on all parts, operations and sequence on jobs being run by machinist.
  • Constantly coordinate with lead machinist on workflow and best procedures to run jobs though the machine shop
  • Help with training the up incoming machinist/apprentice on procedures and operating machines
  • Performs other assigned duties and/or projects to support business needs
