We are looking for a Sr. Machinist with live tooling lathe experience to join our team in Loveland, CO. The anticipated closing date of this posting is 12/31/25 and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Job Function: The Sr. Machinist handles all aspects of running a machine shop and is responsible for operation of both manual and CNC machines, programming and assisting with estimating work.

Requirements

  • 5- 10 years in machine shop environment.
  • Well versed in CAM software with CNC mill and lathe experience.
  • Experience with calculating feeds and speeds based on cutter type, cutter geometry and parent material type.
  • Familiar with all common machinable materials as they relate to proper tool coatings, composition, geometry and operational speeds & feeds.
  • Strength and Stamina: The job may involve lifting and moving parts or materials, typically up to 50lbs. The ability to stand for long periods (8+ hours) is required.
  • Manual Dexterity: Precise hand movements are necessary for handling tools, making adjustments to machines and operating a computer.
  • Visual Acuit y: Good eyesight, including close vision and depth perception, is important for detailed work and inspecting finished parts.
  • Mobility: Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching is required, along with the ability to maneuver around machinery and equipment.
  • Coordination: The role requires good hand-eye coordination to operate machines safely and effectively.
  • Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors.
  • This role requires routine access to restricted information, including but not limited to Export Controlled Information (ECI), Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Information (UCNI), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), Department of Energy Official Use Only (DOE OUO); and/or ITAR-controlled technical data. As required by applicable federal laws and regulations, candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents and all offers of employment will be contingent on satisfying applicable licensing, training, and other requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and coordinates all machining and support activities of the shop, ensuring that work production meets established objectives, specifications, and standards, and that all applicable operating policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Creates programs for machining of prototype and production parts.
  • Produces custom tooling and fixture design for complex prototypes.
  • Proficient in tool and fixture setup and teardown, program loading & verification, and offset inspection and corrections throughout production.
  • Operates manual and CNC equipment, i.e. engine lathe, horizontal or vertical milling machines, surface grinder, band saw, drill press, and measuring tools to produce prototype parts.
  • Consults with engineers and other personnel regarding product information such as design, capacity and purpose, and types of materials to be used for fabrication.
  • Analyzes written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and oral instructions to plan layout and determine sequence of operations.
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • May supervise the work of employees engaged in shop production and production support activities, to include recommendations for hiring, termination, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  • Maintains current knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems.
