About The Position

The Machine Vision Engineer Sr. is a senior-level Member of Technical Staff in the Operations Department at Volkswagen Group, located in San Jose, California. This role is critical for designing, developing, and implementing advanced machine vision systems for automation equipment in solid-state battery production. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of battery cells through the optimization of vision systems, from design to troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 10 years in machine vision engineering, particularly in automation systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical or mechatronics engineering, computer science, or similar field.

  • Master's or higher in electrical or mechatronics engineering, computer science, or similar field.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and integrating complex automation equipment beyond vision systems.
  • Advanced data analysis and machine learning skills.
  • Experience in the solid-state battery industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptualization, design, and full implementation of machine vision systems, including hardware and software selection.
  • Design, program, and commission vision cameras for 2D/3D guidance of robots and part inspection.
  • Integrate machine vision systems with PLC controllers and industrial networks.
  • Analyze data from vision systems and develop machine learning models to improve inspection accuracy.
  • Lead vision system updates, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Collaborate with product design engineering, quality, production, and maintenance teams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in existing vision systems.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate vision systems with MES.
  • Lead the creation of project documentation, including technical specifications and test reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers.
