About The Position

The Sr. Loss Control Specialist at Valero Energy's Corpus Christi refinery is responsible for ensuring quality and quantity assurance in the control of product losses during the custody transfer of crude oil and petroleum products. This role involves proactive oversight of custody movements, compliance with industry standards, and the implementation of systems to mitigate potential inventory and loss issues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in custody transfer measurements, loss control, and/or marine/terminal inspection required.
  • Experience in lab testing, petroleum inspecting, loss control, or marine expeditor preferred.
  • Able and willing to lift 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
  • Able and willing to work 24/7, including holidays, as needed.
  • Currently possess or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within specified timeframe required.
  • Able and willing to work in-person at the Corpus Christi refinery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Valero coverage on custody transfer movements at company owned and non-owned locations around the world, including offshore locations.
  • Identify issues that expose Valero to additional costs and take steps to mitigate this exposure.
  • Minimize losses from errors or inconsistencies in measurement, sampling, or testing of petroleum products by attending custody movements for compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to API guidelines and the Company's hydrocarbon measurement procedures with full documentation.
  • Encourage uniform petroleum cargo measurement and inspection practices.
  • Develop and implement systems to alert management to potential inventory and loss problems.
  • Communicate with vessel officers and shore representatives to assess the need for additional oversight.
  • Verify and confirm volumes with independent inspectors.
  • Perform physical measurement and sampling of marine vessels, railcars, trucks, storage tanks, and other containers as required.
  • Evaluate the performance of inspection companies and their inspectors.
  • Review industry standards and policies (API/ASTM) to implement improvements to reduce exposure to losses.
  • Witness custody meter proving and meter prover calibrations, ensuring proper meter factors are applied in volume calculations.
  • Reinforce the companies 'Life Saving Rules' to all employees.
