LaunchTech is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). This role is central to sustaining mission-critical cybersecurity infrastructure in a dynamic Department of Defense (DoD) environment. You will ensure operational readiness, security, and performance of cybersecurity tools, platforms, and applications while strengthening the agency’s defense against evolving threats.

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (e.g., Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS) within physical and virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, RHV, Azure)
  • Implement and manage system security hardening according to DISA STIGs, NIST guidelines, and DoD policies
  • Perform system patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation in a timely and efficient manner
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize configurations for optimal performance
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and diagrams
  • Support the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of a variety of cybersecurity tools, including but not limited to: ArcSight, Elastic, ACAS, Trellix EPP
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to cybersecurity tools, including integration challenges, performance bottlenecks, and configuration errors
  • Develop and maintain scripts and automation to streamline security operations tasks and improve efficiency
  • Collaborate with security analysts and incident responders to investigate and resolve security incidents
  • Participate in security assessments and audits to ensure compliance with DoD regulations and security best practices
  • Develop and implement security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data and systems
  • Automate security tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible)
  • Work closely with other engineers, analysts, and security professionals to achieve common goals
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support
  • Must have 14, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience
  • May be reduced with completion of advanced degree
  • Must have 6, or more, years of direct experience in Linux server management
  • Must have experience with system hardening and security best practices for Linux systems.
  • Must have experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet
  • Must have experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, KVM, RHV.
  • Must be able to support after-hour maintenance window work, as needed.
  • Must have a current IAT Level II Certification (Security+ CE)
  • Must have a current Linux based certification (RHCSA, RHCE, LPIC)
  • Must be able to maintain a restricted badge and work on site 4+ days per week
  • Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Have experience with Cyber tools such as ArcSight, Elastic, ACAS, Trellix EPP
  • Have experience with database administration (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Have experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Be proficient in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
