Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in employment law in North America, with a significant portion of that experience in a retail environment.
  • Some experience with global employment law and employee mobility/immigration matters.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and provide strategic guidance to senior leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish relationships and influence stakeholders across various departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on employment-related matters, including hiring, performance management, accommodations, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, leaves of absence and compliance with state-specific employment laws.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of employment laws with a heavy emphasis on Colorado, Nevada, Ohio, and Massachusetts, as well as remote employees in other states.
  • Build trust and influence with cross-functional departments, including HR and commercial teams, to ensure alignment and compliance with employment regulations.
  • Demonstrate experience supporting a company with retail locations, understanding the unique challenges and dynamics of high-volume retail and distribution populations.
  • Thrive in an ambiguous and flexible environment, adapting to changing circumstances and providing clear, actionable legal advice.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various legal documents, including employment agreements, restrictive covenants, commercial contracts, and workplace policies.
  • Manage employment related litigation, as well as public government inquiries and audits.
